Kumusta po? I’m Teacher Erika, co-creator of Buksan Filipino Flashcards! I’m a preschool teacher with a degree in Family Life and Child Development from UP Diliman.
Back in 2017, I was tutoring students when I noticed a big problem. My students had a hard time reading and understanding Filipino. I had to translate almost all the words and sentences for them. They were frustrated and they felt like giving up! I realized my students didn’t know basic Filipino.
"How can I help them and other children?" I asked myself. My husband Teacher Sed and I teamed up to create Buksan! We made worksheets in 2018. These worksheets evolved into flashcards a year later. To our surprise, our flashcards received so much love and support from families all over the world! So many children were able to learn Filipino through Buksan.
